Thank You Oiseau de Nuit

49/1 - you will do for me ! save the best til last !!!!!!!!!!!!
Day 3 was a blow out very tough ,unless you had Deja Vue!!!! with the three winners from 2010 winning again in three consecutive races !

Big fields mark Friday and Day 4
The Triumph Hurdle is a huge field lottery for me, and the second race is a back a couple in the race type of race 27 runners I like DIRAR and ALAVAIN. The 3m Novice is a tough test for novices and stayers are required CHAMPION COURT has course form and trainer in good nick. The Gold Cup is a good renewal with the old taking on the new - but I will stick with last years winner IMPERIAL COMMANDER and GONE TO LUNCH in the foxhunters is maybe more of a sentimental bet as he was one of my fav handicappers. Just when you think it cant get any tougher the last two races are impossible ! I think my old trainer Micky Hammond will get a good run out of HOLLINS his run behind Peddlers Cross was a nice siter for this race. The last race is your get of of jail race and in short you end up with betting more stakes on the toughest handicap than you would normally - for me PIGEON ISLAND, SHOREACRES OISEAU DE NUIT and I hope both my mate Sean Traceys horses run well and come home safe.

The Annual under 4/1 fav rule at Cheltenham UPDATE -
As it stands there are likely to be a number of horses that will run that will be under 4/1 starting price that will be fav at the 2011 festival - in the last three years there have been 46 horses to start as fav that were priced under 4/1 - only 8 have won (Quevega = 25% of the winners total as well !). Many greats have tried and been beaten - so no matter how certain you think you are be careful !

Losers total last three years - 55
Cue Card lost 7/4 (Unplaced)
Medermitt lost 11/4 (Unplaced)

Certainly has a look of the Irish - !!!! 6 winners on day 2 !

The Irish have arrived and are taking home the money ! a nice day for me with three winners and a very unlucky fcast when Orsipus couldnt quite get up for 2nd (16s and 33s!) Cant get over how bad Time for Rupert ran, really shocking and flat run - he can still win a Gold Cup he is much better than that. Time for Rupert Also cost me the placepot 5 out of 6 - arghh !!!

Interesting that we got a huge tip for Plan A trained by Gordon Elliot and after two winners before he ran (5/1 and 16/1) - we all know that the law of the gambler meant that it couldnt win !

Day 3

Not a day I usually do well with with tough handicaps and close calls on the better races. First race the Gigginstown horses are running well, remember all their horses that get to chases are horses they rate so Mr Cracker at 20/1 has to be a bet , he is the best of their novices seemingly, a wee saver on Nobel Prince will be useful as well. The Pertemps is really tough and a tip for Chartreaux is passed on but I will be backing Barwell Bridge for a small stake, I dont like either of the next two races and Poquelin and Big Bucks are short priced favs. And if you can pick the winners of the last two races your a better man or women than me !

Day 1 Update -
Hurricane Fly won - vv impresive and the nap won Quevega 11/10 sadly down to 49th in the Tote Ten to follow competition!

RUBY RUBY RUBY - only three winners, as usual the best jockeys win the big races at Cheltenham - Thornton , Johnson and Lee - Ruby had seven winners three years ago so dont be put off by the fact he has ahd three already !!!

Day 2
In the 4 mile chase I will stump for Chicago Grey. Best bet of Day 2 though is TIME FOR RUPERT in the RSA Chase he is a quality horse and a little saver on The Giant Bolster at 25/1 will give you a good run and offer great F/C material I also love - So Young in the novice hurdle (NB) - really striking horse with gears.

The Queen Mother Champion Chase is a great race , past champions abound and I am praying for rain so that Golden Silver can show just how good a horse he is - if he doesnt get lots of rain I fear that Big Zeb and Master Minded will fight out the finish. Aegean Dawn has some how got in the Coral Cup off 11 stone, despite a scare pre Cheltenham he is pure class,I like the horse and a wee saver on Orsipuss at 33/1.

Plan A in the Fred Winter if you like tips from Craigy Boy ! or Paintball if you trust me! either way not a race I really like. The bumper has the usual feel but at 14/1 I could bet Divine Rhapsody if pushed.

The Annual Cheltenham Blog

As the best four days racing arrives and grown men start shouting at TV's, even Tanya Stevenson from Channel 4 has had a haircut - what will win ? well firstly if I had a pound for every person who asks me for a winner I would be able to pay my mortgage off! it is a time for selecting what you feel and not betting too much !!!

I am not sure that the rule below will keep applying as the fields keep thinning out as more races are added, but the stats speak for themselves 1 in 5 horses that start at fav at less than 4/1 get beat that means out of Quevega 11/10, Time for Rupert 2/1, Cue Card 5/2, Imperial Commander 3/1 and Big Bucks 5/6 only one will win.

So remember the MOST IMPORTANT FACT IN Betting at Cheltenham

2011 Day 1 - Festival

The Arkle is my fav race at the festival for having a bet but not this year , a weak race and i just dont fancy any of the first five in the market - No bet

best bet on day 1 CUE CARD - in the opening race at 5/2 - he is plenty short enough but even with the stats against him this horse is top quality - a wee saver on Recession Proof will be worthwhile.

I really like Hurricane Fly and Menorah in the Champion Hurdle, but again it is a very tight race. SunnyhillBoy is the selection in the 2.40 , unlucky last year but a bit short at around 6/1. Quevega is the class act in the Mares race and at 11/10 should win in what is a very weak race.

Day 2
In the 4 mile chase I will stump for Chicago Grey but only if Quito De La Roque does not run. Best bet of Day 2 though is TIME FOR RUPERT in the RSA Chase he is a quality horse and a little saver on The Giant Bolster at 25/1 will give you a good run and offer great F/C material. The Queen Mother Champion Chase is a great race , past champions abound and I am praying for rain so that Golden Silver can show just how good a horse he is - if he doesnt win then Big Zeb and Master Minded will fight out the finish. Aegean Dawn has some how got in the Coral Cup off less than 11 stone so if he runs he has to be a bet as does Plan A in the Fred Winter.
