Sunday 13 December 2009

I know I know its been ages since I blogged but

I have been busy , and my trips to the races have been limited - so here goes with some thoughts on a few horses and Cheltenham pointers -

Horses to Follow -
Shoreacres - lovely neat jumper , made to be a jumper of fences and has schooled well

Joncol - great scope and physical ability, ran a blinder first race of the season when needing it , won in great style last Sunday and will improve through the ranks at any rate of knotts

Dunguib - is simply sensational, If I could guarantee 2/1 and a run in the Supreme Novices you would haul on as much as you could

Mr Whickham - not been knocked about in any race yet, will improve when handicapped I presume

Riverside Theatre - is my long range bet for the Arkle - 16-1 is a nice price in what will be the race of the opening day of the festival

Punjabi - interesting to see he has drifted again for the champion hurdle after needing his run at Cheltenham on Saturday, Binocular is 11/2 i know which one I prefer at the moment

anyway enough for now, the annual Adbrokes day out is on the 21st of December at Musselburgh - I have a winner for the novice hurdle

Kelso Race by race

2.20
Prioryjo has had many chances and this has to be the weakest of the lot, well handicapped on a couple of runs and having his first run for a new stable he is probably the safest selection. The outsider for the race is the lightly raced Mccormack, who having left Micky Hammond runs for the very talented Tina Jackson- could spring a surprise if he looks as well as he did for his first run on the flat this year.
2.55
Tough typical early season race and purely on course form Super Baby is the selection
3.30
Another tricky race and though I like the Howard Johnson Night Force who if fit will go close the recent impressive Perth winner Now this is it looks worthy favorite material
4.05
Avitus rates a bet in the Novice Hurdle a race that Micky Hammond has won twice in the last four years, he has a good line on the hurdlers with a recent winner and as such Avitus a good flat performer sits as the type of horse that Micky does well with.
4.35
A very weak race with a mix of average hurdlers and miss matched first time chasers, I will take a chance on the fences allowing Farne Island to get the trip but it is only a small fancy.
5.10
A good hurdle with lots of angles, Hello Nod only just gets the trip so the long run in might see him fall short - his run at Hexham three runs ago is the best recent form though. Caravel won with plenty in hand last year before being caught out by a top class field in the Imperial Cup - fully fit even off top weight he will go close. Last years winner Border Tale and the ex Nicky Henderson horse Stellino represent the useful trainer Jimmy Moffatt and the fit Fistral runs for the jockeys agent Richard Hale. The selection is Border Tale to follow up his win last year, the parade ring will tell me how fit he is and as such how large a bet !

The two bumpers will be paddock watches and as such no bet can be given.

New Season Kelso October

Well at last the proper horse season is due to start, no more of the flat 5f sprints and dull maidens !!! I havent watched nearly as much as usual on the flat- in fact I would say that I have enjoyed not being as immersed in the flat as usual and so the jumps season beckons.

Sunday - Arc day at Kelso sees Micky Hammond going to try and win one of his races, with AVITUS owned by Paul Sellars in the Novice hurdle- a race he has won before with horses such as Mr Crystal I see this as a value bet on my first racing day out since York in May.

Anyway updates will come as and when , be lucky

June 2009

Well the flat season is underway and as such Royal Ascot is on next week, I am getting less and less interested in the flat season.I have my nag me stable set up which has brought one 12/1 winner, but level stakes is only slightly in front.

Sea the Stars has established itself as the top dog of the 3 year olds but I havent seen a massive superstar yet that sits as a dark horse or improver.

Richard Fahey runs his best two yr old tomorrow at York - Elusive Sue - its a get on big bet - even at York.

The jump scene is still slow, with limited interest and I am quite happy to wait until it grows again in September

My only message to self is - stop laying in large sums when you do bet as 50/50 losers are not a good bet.

Thursday 30 April 2009

Its nearly over...........

Well that is the Scottish Grand National meeting out of the way, Perth festival also and Punchestown has nearly finished - what a lovely jumping season.

There has been some stars on show as well over the last few weeks , DUNGUIB - the best bumper horse I have seen - get it sold though ! HURRICANE FLY - awesome hurdler and of course FIVEFORTHREE winning head in chest (one race too late mind!).

The jumps season's passing is the flat season's start, and the 1000 and 2000 Guineas is the first real meeting of the year with as usual the milers setting the standard for the year.

I have two horses to look out for FANTASIA , my oaks filly and CROWDED HOUSE my Derby horse. So goodbye to the Blog for a few months, with a few sets of notes if I am pushed see you at Wetherby in October.

The wonders of a bank holiday weekend

With Betfair working slower and slower , the frustration of the lack of usability is driving me mad !!! If only the purple one could sort its functionality and lack of in running out then they could nearly get the mrket leader position.

the nap is ROUGE ET BLANC and the 12 /1 is a huge price in the final of te fixed brush handicap series. This horse was only beaten a neck by TRENCHANT who has run well at the festival and Aintree. Its mark of 118 is useful , gets a four yr old allowance and the experience of learning its trade in France will see him run a blinder.

The second bet of the weekend is on CASEY JONES in the Irish Grand National, 14s is a fair price and the way he stays on will see him go close. TRAFFORD LAD is back on Sunday , anything above 11/4 is a good bet.

Aintree Day 3

Its Grand National Day , huge field and you need huge luck to even get round. I strongly fancy BUTLERS CABIN to give A P Mccoy his first National, the key being that he must go to the outside at Bechers Brook as he props jumping the inside. 9/1 isnt a huge price with all the luck required but he would be my main fancy. The interest story is behind My Will who represent the Andy Stewart family whose son Paul had a terrible snow boarding accident which has left him paralysed, he will go off favourite and would by Pauls heroics show the will that is required to win round Aintree. The bigger prices see some classy horses and I still think even with top weight Cloudy Lane can run into a place for Ginger "Red Rum" Mccain's son Donald and last years third Snowy Morning will do similar.

It is a classy day of racing and one of my favourite horses Cape Tribulation runs in the first, he is only 7/2 and I just wonder whether he has left his race at Cheltenham, coupled with the jockey booking and Malcolms horses running moderate at best I might just let him run. The huge potential of Michael Flips will have his mettle tested as he is ridden by the worst jockey I have ever seen in Mark Grant - who is brutal at getting a horse to jump, thankfully Bible Lord survived his spill today. These good horses that he rides for Mr M Tedham need a jockey to reach their full potential.

The second race should see Kalahari King win if the ground stays good and the third race sees FIVEFORTHREE take on the very classy field, he is special and with Jered as saver will be the days nap.

The race before the National sees MALJIMAR seek compensation for not making the cut in the National , he nearly won at Cheltenham and travels really well a saver on DONT PUSH IT will be the cover bet.

The final bet of the week is on CRANKY CORNER who ran a blinder at Cheltenham in the bumper , he travels really well and the hugely eyecatching Premier Sagas would be the saver.

Thursday 2 April 2009

Day Two Aintree

Good job today, really liked the way that Walk On won despite not looking that enthusiastic !!!

RED MALONEY fits the bill in the first, ex flat racer who ran in first 6 at Cheltenham is a good stat, stayed the trip on the flat . SIEGEMASTER fell at Cheltenham despite looking a million dollars, really think at around 12/1 he is a good bet to beat HERECOMESTHETRUTH who is yet another Paul Nicholls shortie!

TIDAL BAY will be spot on for the Melling Chase and can probably beat Vor Por Ustedes if they can keep tabs on him to three out. Bible Lord will be a white knickle ride for Mark Grant in the next, the Sefton sees Karabak at a short price and I quite like KNOCKARA BEAU at a huge price to run in the frame with Karabak perhaps leaving his race at Cheltenham.

The nap of the day is CAPTAIN AMERICO in the handicap hurdle 8/1 is getting shorter all the time.

Wednesday 1 April 2009

Aintree Day 1

Walk On is the nap 11/4 is a good strong bet

Faasel is the each way selection in the first race purely based on his Aintree record of 1, 2, 2, from three runs, probably wont win but worth a look at around 25/1.

The second each way double half is on Theatre Knight in the Foxhunters at 33/1 , his record at Aintree rates him a serious bet in a lottery of a race.

I hope Denman wins but at 5/6 cant be interested, the 2 mile chase is really tough and the final hurdle must see Arcalis and also Mumbles Head go well.

Monday 30 March 2009

Its quieter now but nearly the end of the season

Well only three / four weeks to go in the jumps season - Aintree then Perth and that is that for a few months for The Adman. looking forward to a bit of warmth in the air and a new found fitness regime !

Aintree:
The Grand National meeting starts on Thursday and there are quite a few strong fancies running on from Cheltenham.

DAY ONE
First things first Hebridean is Paul Nicholls banker for the meeting but I cant see him beating WALK ON, what a very topical winner me thinks.

The big stayers race on day 1 sees Big Bucks looking to follow up his Cheltenham win, not sure as a short price horse that Aintree will suit as much as Cheltenham so each way on Nineteith Minute might be my bet. Kalahari King must follow up his great run at Cheltenham on his favoured ground and I cant wait to see Blue Bajan run over 2m 4f on quick ground.

DAY TWO
Michael Flips will suit the course and with AP on top must run a big race in the opener, with Mark Grant on top he is a big leave ! By the way I pray that Bible Lord doesnt get in to the Grand National, with Mark Grant on top the word danger comes to mind ! The best bet on the card is TIDAL BAY , with his really good run at Cheltenham behind him, better ground and a race that Howard has won on numerous occasions he will be value against the disappointing Vor Por Ustedes. I also expect Calgary Bay to run better over a trip that will suit better than Cheltenham. I like Bishops Bridge in the first race over the national fences, and also like Nineteith Minute if he runs in the listed handicap hurdle.

DAY THREE
Cape Tribulation will carry my money in the opener of the third day, back to his best trip and hoepfully Phil Kinsella will let him stride on, the best bet of the final day though is FIVE FORTHREE a fresh horse that is just simply topclass a wee saver on JERED in the same race will be included. The national bet is on Butlers Cabin with a saver on Hear the Echo and the concluding bumper will see a few quid on Cranky Corner for Mr Hemmings.

Friday 13 March 2009

Over

I cant believe its over , and just in front - probably down to the away winners rather than the Cheltenham ones !!!

The favs under 4/1 had a few winners which didnt help 5 from 18
Cousin Vinny 9/4 (unp)
Binocular 6/4
Lami 7/4
QUEVEGA 2/1
MIKAEL D ARGENT 5/2
COOLDINE 9/4
MASTER MINDED 4/11
Alexander Severus 11/4
Rite of Passage 5/2
Vor Por Ustedes 10/11
Kasbah Bliss 5/4 (unp)
Poker di Siviola 7/2 (unp)
Daves Dream 7/2 (unp)
Pride of Dulcote
KAUTO STAR 7/4
Juveigner 7/2 (unp)
Big Eared Fran 7/2
Poquelin 3/1 (unp)

The Ruby show came into town, with Nicholls hitting top form from day 3 - Mullins had a ball and no winners again for Hobbs, Pipe, Powell, Murphy. Top jocks dominated most of the races with very few shocks Walsh had 6, Geraghty 3, Mccoy 1.

Northern horses came and didnt conquer.

Wednesday 11 March 2009

End of day two

Well I am in front, just !!!
day 1 ended up level thanks to Sue Smith at Sedgefield again, and again !!!
Didnt back Punjabi at all which erks then missed Tricky Twister for Twister !!! at the start of day two ! Then out of the clouds came Ninetieth Minute - come to daddy 18/1 thank you for a good scoop !!!

Dunguib was just awesome awesome awesome....................

Day three looks tricky tricky tricky................
Irish Raptor was horse two from Twiston, I love Three Mirrors, The Siliotar, Openide and the nap Kasbah Bliss

Monday 9 March 2009

Cheltenham Day One Tuesday

With over 110 runners the need for study is paramount, winds is freshening and rain is gathering. Is life not just brilliant!

Kempes is the best bet in the first race, quality ex flat horse who likes cut travels well and jumps well he is my main fancy. Michael Flips has the dreadful Mr Grant on board he is a quality horse but jockey puts me off. The negative vibes around Cousin Vinny , the over rated form of Torphican and the links to Dee EE Williams formlines gives Shoreacres a good chance of running in the first six.

The Arkle is full of runners with no real standout, I think the best of the Irish is Golden Silver with Kalahri King the best of the English.

The classy Star De Mohaison is the bet in race three, ground dependant - soft would put me off.

Quivega and Binocular will be strong fancies for many with plenty of rain old Brave Inca will be near the frame in the champion with Punjabi going closs to the three as well.

Monday 2 March 2009

Early Cheltenham Fancies

Day 1:
Michael Flips looks exciting in the first race and at 14/1 looks like a strong each way fancy - the bet will depend on the jockey booking for me - AP Mccoy will be a huge positive. I like Calagary Bay in the second and Osana and Punjabi (e/w) in the Champion hurdle with Star De Mohaison well worth a look if he runs in the William Hill chase.

Day 2:
Pyscho will ge the chance to win me back the money he lost for me last year in the Coral Cup 12/1 is a big price at the moment, I also like Bensalem and Casey Jones in the first. I really like Briarius e/w in the champion chase at 25/1 with 9/1 being a massive price in the Queen Mother without the favourite. Of course highlighted here the 14s on Gone To Lunch is long gone and with A P on top he will run a good race. I love Mr Thriller and whichever race he runs in he will carry my money.

Day 3:
Kasbah Bliss will be the best bet of the day on Thursday - 5/4 is in theory a huge price given his record and ability and I really like Yes Sir and Three Mirrors in the Racing Post Plate as long as the ground is good.

By now after day 3 I am sure of my fate on the meeting so Day 4 will see either go to jail or get out of jail bets !!!

Day 4:
I love Master of the Arts in the Triumph, Numide in the County Hurdle (needs soft or cut at worst) and my second best bet of the week Cape Tribulation (with cut in the ground) so let see what happens in 8 days time.

Kasbah Bliss
Cape Tribulation
Gone to Lunch
Master of the Arts
Mr Thriller

Good luck

Monday 23 February 2009

Cheltenham odds begin to shorten

Its time, the odds are starting to shorten for Cheltenham and the number of short priced good things is growing. The under 4/1 favs are already out in force

Kauto Star 2/1
Vor Por Ustedes 7/4
Kasbah Bliss 5/4
Whiteoak 7/2
Binocular 5/4
Lami 7/2
Master Minded 1/3
Zaynar 7/2

Now they cant all win can they?
(Kasbah Bliss and Master Minded are my only 2)

Gone for Lunch is now 9/1, Calgary Bay is 5/1 they just keep getting shorter and shorter

I am going quiet for 14 days, away to study and learn - nothing daft in between and to leave my 2 horses in a 3 runner race and miss the winner form behind. See you at Prestbury

Saturday 21 February 2009

Saturday 21st

A very quiet week punting, one which I cant even say I feel that I have missed a winner.

The tote ten to follow is getting lively upto 106th and 21st in the monthly - Trafford Lad winning would of been nice !

This is one of those Saturdays where I should just sit and put a trixie and a double on and not even open Betfair. Skippers Brigg (2.6)and Sitting Tennant (4.2) look good bets at Newcastle with Chabrinal Minster a great bet espeacially as he will trade very very short in running with a get out in running a definate play.

Saturday 14 February 2009

Good days racing today

Well Kasbah Bliss looked awesome, Ashkazar really useful (Punjabi had my belly on him) Vor Por Ustedes looked like Kauto Star and Tazbar ran a blinder with top weight on ground he hates !!

Didnt end up laying Vor Por Ustedes as he was 2.2 , backed Tamrinbleu instead, backed Wales -9 (ended up 8) but made a lovely profit on Stripe me Blue backed at 7.8 laid back at 2.1.

The tote ten to follow livened up for The kybermen today with three big winners , if tomorrow sees Trafford Lad winning and Neptunes Collonges we might even make the leaderboard.

Bet maverick had a good day again 50% winners on a day with 6 bets , still free service until end of February

Friday 13 February 2009

On a day full of racing

My best bet is Wales - 9pts at the Rugby 10/11 to beat England on the handicap - different gravy - the biggest certainty since sliced bread -

Three horses to view for the future - ASHKAZAR and PUNJABI 2.40 Wincanton KASBAH BLISS 1.20 Haydock - watch all three for Cheltenham and one for the future TAZBAR 3.25 Haydock (how he has ended up with a mark of 152 is beyond me, he hates the ground and is 15lbs above his last winning mark) who will run well at some point in a huge race as he is a star, think Aintree day 1 off about 146

Bets
Tamrinbleu - 2.15 Ascot -
Stripe Me Blue- 4.15 Wincanton

Lay
Vor Por Ustedes 2.15 Ascot not won on soft since 2005, I think he has lost the desire 5/6 fav

Thursday 12 February 2009

Onward onward

With a little over 4 weeks to go Cheltenham horses are starting to mow down their grass as they look for their perfect pitch for their intended targets.

Ante post bets placed
Gone for Lunch £200 win 14/1 Sun Alliance
Cape Tribulation £150 win 16/1 Albert Bartlett

Punjabi at 16s looks tempting each way in the Champion hurdle

Big chance this weekend Air Force One if he runs in Ireland on Sunday - if he runs he will love the bigger fences that will aid his performance- also laying Vor Por Ustedes in the Ascots chase 11/10 - looks like he has had enough ala Denman.

Ps - Its great to see Sam Thomas riding well again, still think he was treated badly by the Nicholls camp - getting the blame for horses being out of form

Tuesday 10 February 2009

And its cold again

Well yet another enforced break in the jumps season, have not got a clue how many days have been lost but I am saving a fortune !!!! The all weather might see plenty of horses getting spins to keep them fit for the festival soon -thats if we dont get a break out of good weather. The funny thing is that when it does comes back, the ground will be rotten so at what point do you give up on the "run" before Cheltenham?

The Bet Maverick tipping service is doing well, a link can be found to the right of the post- well worth giving it a go as Graham Cunningham is as they say the dogs bollards.

The Denman camp have been very open, a little birdie tells me that they never thought he would win on Saturday - I wonder if the coffers were filled?????

Saturday 7 February 2009

Denman

As you know if your a regular reader my thoughts on Denman, his first appearance today and he doesnt look half the horse he was sadly. I say this as there is no doubt that although he ran well, the track was the wrong way round and the going probably a bit gluey he just doesnt have the same fire in his eyes - in short Cheltenham gold cup day as bottomed him - and that might be the day of the champion. Forget the Gold Cup , get him out in a field and give him a really good break would be my thoughts.

Saturday 24 January 2009

Saturday Festival Hints

Cape Tribulation is Dato Star !!! top class run , a little keen but skips over the hurdles. Better when fresh, should go to festival without another run if he gets soft ground in the 3 miler he will take some beating.

Big Bucks looked beaten and a little sulky at the top of the hill , Punchestown had him covered then faded - on better ground Big Bucks wont get in front of Punchestown or Kasbah Bliss.

Tidal Bay - looked like he wasnt enjoying it at Carlisle for his first run and I still think something is ailing him - he is game though and if he were mine a nice run over hurdles would be coming

Halcon Generladis didnt want to start then ducked it after the last, not a great race but Joe Lively does love Cheltenham. Roll Along ran like a drain as did his other runner on the card - this isnt his form.

Nigel Twiston Davies badly out of form still, and his runners can be ignored until March.

Friday 23 January 2009

and Ayr and Hexham on Sunday

Monteith fancies he will have a few good chances on Sunday - Quicuyo and Nelson de Ronceray (Fortunate Isle a lay in the same race) really well fancied.

Another good day ...........

Not many bets but backed Polar Gunner and Almaydan at Doncaster and there is no better feeling when the two you have backed are clear jumping two out. Learned a few good truths today Betdaq in running market was only 2k from the off on three successive markets - Betfair never less than 100k - Betdaq didnt get any lower than 3 for Polar Gunner, my 2.12 had no chance !!!

Cheltenham - Watched the full Racing Uk review review last night and came up with four theories

1) Binocular didnt get up the hill last year - so why will he this year ? - 5/4 No thanks (remember the shocking record of favs under 4/1 with only one winning last year ) - not sure he will beat Punjabi again huge value

2) Loved the way that Gone to Lunch stayed on last year, far better than current fav What a Friend - 14s is huge

3) Forpaddydeplaster ran a blinder at the festival last year - Arkle price of 14s is huge - get on before Sunday

4) Roll Along stayed on really well in his race last year - could be a good thing for a handicap

Thursday 22 January 2009

Dont you throw those bloody betting spears at me

Im Back- Time for Profit

At Last

After my many near misses finally landed one - Bumper at Musselburgh go the Hunter - 23/1 thank you very much - not enough on but at last a decent win for the troops !!!

Going to have my first Cheltenham bet after watching last years festival
GONE TO LUNCH 14/1 £200 win - last year beat them all running on - AP loves him

Friday 16 January 2009

The Cold spell is gone

Well not for my punting, just cant get into it at all ! The winners aint flowing, the buzz just isnt there! Tomorrows racing is not great if your a punter as its odds on central all over the place - and we all know they cant all win !!! Master Minded heads up the racing with another 3 odds on shots on show. I havent joined the Master Minded band waggon yet, as I just think it is a very poor division at the moment with the two mile hurdlers just not stepping up as chasers - just becasue you have nothing to beat doesnt mean that you are a superstar.

Anyway I believe that Denman is struggling a bit to get fit, I cant see it even running at Cheltenham I am topping up my pension laying the 1.98 for a place at Cheltenham.

GOSSIP

Watch Calgarry Bay tomorrow, fantastic jumper - Lenny Lungo will have his horses fully fit in two weeks, Nicky cant fathom why his are not spot on yet , Ferdy has flu jabbed his Cheltenham horses.

Good luck chancers

Wednesday 7 January 2009

Trafford Lad misses Cheltenham

It seems that the owners are going to bypass Cheltenham this year with the highly talented Trafford Lad , preferring instead to pot hunt and wait another year for Cheltenham.

On another note Denman seems to be about due on a racecourse - I will be laying him wherever he turns up as he wont be the same horse again.

Jeepers creepers its cold !!!

Just wanted to say how much I am enjoying my mid jump season Ice Cold holiday - we should have one every year as it doesnt half freshen you up !!! it will start again at Ayr on Saturday the 10th - where at last there has been some initiative shown by a racecourse in putting on an extra meeting.
May the great god of gambling hold clear as the "race to Cheltenham closes in"

Thursday 1 January 2009

The start of the downhill run to Cheltenham

It comes round quickly but the Cheltenham festival is just 70 days away - the four day festival really is just 70 days away !!! As with any form of betting it comes down to me to select some tasty prices on ante - post selections so here goes

Sun Alliance Chase
Calgary Bay - 1pt win, 1pt place -16/1 William Hills
What a friend - 1pt win - 10/1 various
The Arkle
Osana - 2pts win - 16/1 various

and the biggest bet - is to lay Denman - win and place in the Gold Cup market - to a maximum bank.
